Outbound Exchange Students

Exchange programs are an exciting and important part of the Economics curriculum with its focus on international education. Living and studying in a foreign country can provide a valuable and enriching experience for any student. As well as improving English skills, the experience enhances self-confidence and a sense of independence. Through exposure to other educational systems and interaction with people from other countries, a student develops a more global perspective. Those who have an interest in future graduate study in a foreign country can use this as an opportunity to “test out” their ability to be successful in different educational and cultural environments.

Econ-TU Partnership Universities

The Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University has established many exchange agreements with top universities around the world, as listed below. Students can enroll in this one- or two-semester short-term study program and take courses abroad. Credits earned at partner universities can be transferred back to Thammasat University to fulfill requirements for the bachelor degree in Economics, allowing exchange participants to finish their studies in four years.

To join the outgoing exchange programs, students must prepare several things in advance as the timeline of the application process generally consists of the following five stages.

  1. In October, the International Affairs Office, Faculty of Economics will organize exchange program information sessions about partner universities and English proficiency requirements.
  2. An official announcement about applications and other required documents is made from December to January of the following year. Outgoing exchange students must take an English proficiency test and pass the minimum scores as required by partner universities.
  3. Applicants must attend an interview. The interview serves as a method for the selection committee to assess each candidate’s ability to participate in the exchange. The assessment covers the following:
    – Communication skills (in English)
    – Maturity/Personality
    – General knowledge about institutions and course availability at exchange partners.
    – Attitudes and perceptions.
